Shallow DOF with Mitakon 50mm f/.95

I’m interested in the Mitakon 50mm f/.95 for shallow DOF photography. I experimented with, and tested, this lens (Mk II) on the SONY A7 II. See this link for more information.

I just purchased the Mk III version for the Nikon Z-mount and wanted to test this combination, especially comparing it with the SONY combo (Mk II).

The first thing I learned is that it is a fully - manual lens (no electrical contacts with the camera). Thus it is manual focus and no aperture information is passed betwen the lens and the camera. The camera does, however, do auto-exposure based on the light entering the camera from the lens.

In order to activiate Vibration reducton (IBIS) it is necessary to enter “non-CPU data” for this lens. This is accomplished by going to the Z7 Setup menu -> Non-CPU lens data and entering:

Focal Length (mm) - 50

Maximum aperture - F1.2 (the widest available)

After that, IBIS is activated for the lens.

I tested the lens with the focus target and compared it to the SONY version. Not much difference. SONY is porably marginally sharper at f/.95. Follow the link above to see the SONY data.
